In the fall of 2001 I joined the Freeport Camera Club and began attending most of the PFLI competitions. I was dazzled by the amazing images and began to seriously study the techniques used to create the beautiful work being presented month after month. At the end of my second year in the B group lightning struck twice and I was holding two Leonard Victor awards -first place color print and third place slide. That season I also finished the year at the club with first place in prints and first place in slides and moved to the A group. I took the judges seminar in July of 2004 and joined the Wantagh club in September 2004. The initial involvement with slides and cropping by using various mounts was a great education in composition and left me with great respect for the purity of the slide medium. That experience was invaluable in making the transition to digital. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NELSON BURACK 108 Madeira Blvd. Home Phone: 631-367-8082 Melville, NY 11747 E-mail: nelbur@juno.com Camera Club(s): Paumanok Judge/Speaker: Speaker Show Description: India: Journey to Rajasthan and the Pushkar Fair Morocco, Turkey, Southern Africa, Ireland/Scotland/Wales, Antarctica, Bangkok and Nepal Minimum Fee: $150.00 for shows Bio Data Salon Exhibitor, Leonard Victor Award, Photos have appeared in journals and magazines. Initially images and forms are digitized and then reinvented, either 2 or 3-dimensionally to open new thories of people, places or events. I have always embraced the concept of collage -as combining images and textures offer an opportunity to more richly define a subject. Each piece is an attempt to arrange layers of elements together to create a unique reality. In particular I seek to explore themes sparked by family, culture, or fantasy with my work. It is my hope that viewers creatively conjure their own stories from my work and reflect upon their own lives. Understanding the links between our lives and histories and how they nurture our spirit is both an act of thanksgiving to the past and a legacy to the future. Travel Restrictions: Only: Long Island, Queens Minimum Fee: $50.00 Bio Data Bill Grabowski's creative endeavors embrace photography in its purest sense as well as stretch it into new art forms. His work reveals a deep sense of spirit, born from an homage to craft, together with a desire to explore evolving technologies. An artist-educator for 30 years Bill teaches at all levels. He is the curator of the Art-trium Gallery for the Huntington Arts Council, a unique exhibition space in a corporate environment. Bill exhibits extensively in a variety of venues -having been in over 90 shows in the past 6 years. His work has been recognized with 70 awards over that period, including Best in Shows in Huntington, LI Arts Council at Freeport, East End Arts Council, and Brookhaven Arts & Hum. Council, as well as a Distinguished Selection from the Camera Club of NY. He writes about his work and process for Legacy magazine, and his work is in the private collections of Stephen Spielberg and former President Bill Clinton. Bill.s most recent series is entitled -.Past Prime..and addresses the physical and cultural evolution of Long Island. When evaluating, Mr. Grabowski looks for a photo to not merely capture a moment, but rather reveal an essence. Photographs are not merely Xeroxes of nature. Each photograph is a statement of what an artist thinks is important, and will be successful if an artist can translate that in a personal way. It is of great importance to create an image that reveals spirit and freshness -avoiding clichés. We've all taken the perfect..sunset ..we need to look at our subjects, especially common ones, in unique ways. A photographer needs to be emotionally involved in an image so that we, the viewer, might be. This is often aided by economy in composition. Images should be cropped in the viewfinder or on the desktop with a .sharp blade.. Elements should move the eye effortlessly around a piece- by the elements of content, color, texture, or light. Miscues in focus or in printing weaken the impact from all aspects. Lastly, Bill thanks the members for their desires and commitment to create, grow, and leave a visual legacy of their time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROBERT GREEN 1111 Shore Parkway Home Phone: 718-331-3835 Brooklyn, NY 11228 E-mail: Marty84@juno.com Camera Club(s): Flushing, Brooklyn, Southeast Queens, Metropolitan CCC, PSA Judge/Speaker: Judge & Speaker Show Description: How to programs on several subjects: drive-by shooting, travel, fireworks, derivations, Photoshop, tabletops, blacklight, etc. Specialties: people, candids, pets, sports, flowers, zoos, nature, travel, photo-journalism, straight-traditional derivations, glassware, abstracts, digital, B&W, color, textures, local scenes, buildings, gardens, all seasons, close-ups, montages, street scenes, nighttime, fireworks, sunsets, models, fair amount of digital computer enhancements, etc. Minimum Fee: Club standard plus reasonable tolls & gas Bio Data 49+ years in photography, 30+ in camera club photography.
