PHOTOGRAPHIC FEDERATION OF LONG ISLAND HONORS RULES *************************************************** GENERAL INFORMATION: "Honors" are a form of public recognition of individual contributions to the advancement of the Art and Science of Photography in general and in service to the Federation itself in the furtherance of the objectives stated in the Federation Charter. Honors to be awarded are as follows; ASSOCIATE (APFLI) is to be awarded in recognition of the individual's contribution. Those PFLI members who directly through the Federation have contributed substantially to the advancement of photography. FELLOW (FPFLI) is to be awarded to recipients of the Associate Honor who have demonstrated continued contributions to photography with particular regard to contributions in the furtherance of Federation objectives as outlined in the Federation Charter. A two year minimum period is required between Associate Honor Award and the Fellow Honor Award. HONOR FELLOWSHIPS may be awarded to non-members for outstanding contributions to the organization, programming and promotion of photography which further the objectives stated in the Federation Charter. SERVICE RECOGNITION AWARD for a member of a PFLI Club who has performed extraordinary service for photography, but not necessarily through the PFLI A certificate signed by both the President and Secretary of the Federation will be given. Presentations are to be made annually. APPLICATIONS: Must be typed or printed clearly on forms furnished by the PFLI. 1. Deadline for applications to be received by the Honors Committee is the Friday of the second week in January. Applications received after this deadline will be held for the following year, unless return is requested by the proposer. 2. If, in the opinion of the members of the Honors Committee, an application does not contain sufficient information to properly evaluate the achievements of the candidate, the application shall be returned to the proposer for resubmission. All information on the application must be factual. The use of flattery or exaggeration is to be avoided. State the facts clearly and in a precise manner. PROPOSERS: Any member in good standing of a Federation Member Club may initiate the application. Members of the Honors Committee can initiate or endorse any applications for Honors. The following guidelines are to be adhered to: Make the application WITHOUT the knowledge of the person being nominated. 1. Carefully: read Honors Rules and application instructions on the form and complete the latter completely. 2. Weigh the nominee's contributions carefully and make certain that all available pertinent information is placed at the disposal of the Honors Committee. 3. Name the suggested endorsers on the form but do NOT approach them for the purpose of predetermining their views. ENDORSERS: The endorsers suggested should have personal knowledge of the achievements of the nominee and will be required to submit unbiased views as to the qualifications. All this must be done in the strictest confidence. EVALUATION: The Honors Committee will give diligent consideration to all applications and will treat all information received in the strictest confidence. At the conclusion of the Committee's deliberations, all applications, together with any addendum and memorandums, will be destroyed. It is the duty of the proposer to make every effort to present a clear-cut, accurate presentation in the best possible manner. INFORMATION REQUIRED: To support the application for an honors award the following information should be furnished in a brief, concise manner. Dates and locations should be included where appropriate. and if available. Number paragraphs on the application to correspond with the items listed below. The following information should be provided if available. 1. Present any previous occupations or positions related to photography. Describe the nature of the work and the degree of responsibility. 2. Offices held in photographic organizations, including service as chair and important committee appointments. Describe special services performed. 3. Photographic honors or awards received other than for competitions or exhibits 4. Indicate the more important salons, shows or competitions Judged. 5. Non-professional photographic lectures, demonstrations and courses taught. Name the principal organizations served. 6. Published-articles, papers or books. Identify by suitable references, including co-authors, dates, volumes and page numbers.
