PFLI AND LV DIGITAL COMPETITION PROGRAM INSTRUCTIONS **************************************************** THE PFLI Digital Competition System consists of the files; PFLICOMPVxx.EXE (the main executable file where xx is the current version number) PFLISETUP.TXT (A data text file containing the minimum scores needed for a ribbon, the club numbers and club names and the members names, group and code name) PFLIMEDAL.BMP (the 27 Point Medal image file) PFLIGOLD.BMP (the Gold ribbon image File) PFLIRED.BMP (the Red ribbon image file) VB40032.DLL THE IMAGE FILES The EXE, BMP and TXT and image files must all reside in the same folder. The VB40032.DLL file must reside in your C:\windows\system32 folder. Some versions of windows may require you to right click the EXE file and "Run as Administrator" the first time. If you are using a MAC you must have the conversion program. We suggest you create a separate folder for each monthly competition and that you retain the folders as a backup for the Leonard Victor competition. When all of the image files for the month have been collected the program is ready for a test run. During this process a number of temporary files will be created. They will all begin with a ~ and may be safely deleted after the competition is completed but they are tiny files and will not impact your hard drive's storage capacity. The first step is to click on the CREATE THE DATA FILES. This routine performs a number of checks to make sure the image files and the setup file are all in the correct format and that the maker codes and the makers class are all correct. If there are no errors a green list appears. Enter the DATE OF THE COMPETITION and click PRINT THE SCORE SHEETS and return to the Main Menu. If you know the judges club numbers click ENTER THE JUDGE NUMBERS. Otherwise you may wait until the night of the competition. If a red list appears there are errors that must be corrected. You may print the list to help you while you track down and correct the mistakes. Since all of these images have been thru a club competition the most common error is a failure to replace the group designations i.e. A1 should now be an AA or AB, etc. The next most common error is a new club member that has not been added to the PFLISETUP.txt file. Once you have a green list click BEGIN THE COMPETITION and run through an entire mock competition. For this exercise use the F (forward) and B (back) keys which bypass the need to enter a score. The purpose for the run thru is to make sure that all of the images load correctly and that the images are sized correctly. Images with a non-JPG extension will not display but will also not generate an error message so you should make sure the image formats are correct when you first download them. Once the run through is finished and all the images display correctly you are ready for the actual competition. At the competition you may click on PROJECTOR TEST which projects a contrast step wedge, an aspect ratio test, a sharpness test and a color checker. ENTER THE JUDGE NUMBERS if this has not already been done. They will be used to display a notice as to whether an average is called for. BEGIN THE COMPETITION and SELECT the group you wish to judge. Enter a score and use the > key to advance the images (you may use < to go back). If you make a error in entering a score merely re-type it. At the end of a completion group you may elect to review a certain range of scores or simply proceed to the next group. Should the competition be interrupted for any reason you may re-start the program and > to the interruption point and continue from there. (DO NOT CREATE the data files again or the recorded scores will be lost). If you should lose the hand written score sheets you may retrieve the scores (once you have access to a printer) by clicking PRINT THE FINAL SCORES from the main menu. A sample PFLISETUP.TXT file will look like this; 23 25 23 25 27 999 12, Flushing 14, Fresh Meadows 16, Great Neck 17, Huntington 999 c22,Ellen,Gallagher,elleng,A c24,Ellen,Lee,ellenlee,b c24,Marvin,Lieb,marvlieb,b c24,Dorothy,Phillips,dphillips,b c26,Alan,Agdern,alanaagde,A c26,Marc,Bellow,marcmbell,A c27,Dick,Hunt,dickhunt,A c32,jeff,goldschmidt,jgold256,A c32,jan,golden,jangolden,A c35,Sylvia,Hodge,shodge,b c48,Veronica,Saunders,saundv, 999 The first 5 lines are respectively: The minimum score for a red ribbon in the "B" Group The minimum score for a gold ribbon in the "B" Group The minimum score for a red ribbon in the "A" Group The minimum score for a Gold ribbon in the "A" Group The minimum score for medal. This group is followed by a 999 signifying the end of that data block. The next series of lines are: A list of the clubs with their number and name. This group is also followed by a 999 signifying the end of that data block. The final group is a list of all makers with their club number, first name, last name, code name and class. There is no salon class at the PFLI so only "B" and "A" apply. No spaces are permitted in this group. This group is also followed by a 999 signifying the end of that data block. The PFLI LEONARD VICTOR DIGITAL COMPETITION INSTRUCTIONS THE PFLI Leonard Victor Digital Competition System is identical to the monthly digital competition in every aspect of preparation and operation, including the use of the PFLISETUP.TXT file with the follow exceptions: 1.The main executable program is PFLICOMPLVxx.exe. 2.The program provides a list at the end of each category to enable the judges to break ties and select the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards. You may click on the list and re-score the images until the ties are broken. A random maker code is assigned to every image. If the code is the same the images are by the same maker which allows you to insure that the maker does not receive more than 1 award. 3. The PFLIMEDAL.BMP, PFLIRED.BMP and PFLIGOLD.BMP files are not used. 4. There is no provision to enter judge club numbers.
